TORONTO CANADA - December 12, 1994 - M. Onyschuk and Associates, Inc. today released a new extensible framework for data entry and validation. OATextFields is an Interface Builder palette and accompanying library which offers: 1. a typical collection of data formatting and validation options (all caps, strip trailing blanks, numerics, numerics with exceptions, ranges of values) 2. a rather untypical and exciting framework of dynamically loadable "formatters" - objects which are simple to write and which can perform more complicated validations both as the user types and after text entry is complete! OATextFields is being made available to the public in hopes that the community can build on the framework provided by the kit, and develop a library of quality formatters that everyone can use. MOTIVATION: Until today, NEXTSTEP has sorely lacked a standard, freely available text-entry widget with intelligence. This is the motivation behind OATextFields. "Think of it as BackSpace for data entry and validation," says Mark Onyschuk, senior consultant at O&A Inc. The palette and accompanying libraries allow developers to build customized formatters for enterprise specific data types, and reuse publicly available formatters for more common data types. OATextFields' bundle architecture also allow developers to upgrade data entry formatters without recompiling the applications that use them.
